WordPress web design

WordPress web design in Newport, made simple to run.

We build custom WordPress websites with editing screens shaped around your content, so changing a price, a photo or a whole page feels straightforward. No bloated page builders, no fragile layouts and no waiting on a developer for small changes.

01Why WordPress

Popular for good reason, when it's built well.

WordPress is free, open source and runs a vast number of websites, from small local firms to major publishers. That popularity brings real benefits: plenty of people know how to use it, there are reliable plugins for most jobs, and you're never locked in to one company's platform.

The catch is that WordPress is very easy to build badly. An off-the-shelf theme, a dozen plugins bolted on and a page builder doing the heavy lifting can leave you with a site that's slow, awkward to edit and a worry every time an update notice appears.

We build it the other way round: a lean, custom theme made for your content, with only the plugins that genuinely earn their place.

WordPress is likely to suit you if

  • You want to update your own content without asking for help
  • News, guides or case studies are part of how you win work
  • You'd like the freedom to change hosting or developers in future
  • You need room to add features as the business grows

02How we build it

A custom theme, not a page builder.

This is the biggest difference between a WordPress site that's pleasant to live with and one that quietly becomes a chore.

A custom theme from us

  • Only the code your site needs, so pages stay quick
  • Editing fields that match your content: services, team, FAQs, case studies
  • Layouts that stay consistent however many pages you add
  • Fewer plugins, so fewer updates and fewer things to go wrong

A typical page-builder site

  • Extra code on every page, whether it's used or not
  • A blank canvas that makes it easy to nudge a layout out of line
  • Styling scattered across hundreds of individual settings
  • The whole site relying on one plugin to keep working

03Editing

What updating your site actually looks like.

We set up the WordPress dashboard around your business, not the other way round. Adding a new service means filling in a short form with clearly labelled fields. Swapping a photo means picking a new one from the media library. The design takes care of itself.

  • Reusable blocks for the sections you use most
  • Clear labels and help text on every field
  • Separate roles for staff, so people only see what they need
  • A preview before anything goes live

When the site launches, we walk you through it on a video call and leave you with a short guide written for your website, not a generic manual.

04After launch

Keeping WordPress healthy.

Like any software, WordPress needs looking after. You can do it yourself with a little guidance, or we can take care of it for you.

Updates, done carefully

WordPress, theme and plugin updates applied and checked afterwards, rather than left to pile up or run unattended.

Backups you can fall back on

Regular backups kept somewhere other than your hosting, so there's always a recent copy if something goes wrong.

Security basics

Strong logins, limited admin access and protection against common attacks.

Speed checks

An eye on page speed as content grows, so the site doesn't slowly bog down.

Small changes

New pages, tweaks and fixes for the times you'd rather not do them yourself.

05Switching platforms

Moving from another platform? We'll plan it properly.

Website builders such as Wix and Squarespace are a sensible place to start, but many businesses eventually want more control over design, speed and search. Moving to WordPress is very doable, as long as it's planned rather than rushed.

If your current site also needs a rethink, our website redesign service covers the bigger picture.

  1. Audit what you have

Every page, image and form on your current site, plus the pages that bring in visitors from search.

  2. Rebuild, don't copy

We design and build a proper theme rather than imitating your old template.

  3. Move the content

Text, images and posts are carried across and tidied up along the way.

  4. Redirect old addresses

Old URLs point to their new equivalents, so search engines and bookmarks follow you to the new site.

Why don't you use drag-and-drop page builders?

Page builders are handy for putting something together quickly, but they tend to load a lot of extra code on every page, which slows things down, and they make it easy to knock a layout out of line by accident. A custom theme gives you editing tools shaped around your content, with far less to go wrong. If you're attached to a particular builder, we'll talk it through honestly.

What will I be able to change myself?

Pretty much everything you'd expect to change regularly: text, images, services, team members, news posts, opening hours and whole page sections. Things that rarely change, like the overall layout and the main navigation, are kept a little more protected so they can't be broken by mistake.

Is WordPress secure?

WordPress itself is well maintained and secure when it's kept up to date. Most problems come from out-of-date plugins, weak passwords and poor hosting. We keep plugins to a minimum, choose reputable ones, set up secure logins and backups, and show you how to keep everything current, or look after it for you if you'd prefer.

Can you move my site from Wix or Squarespace to WordPress?

Yes. We move your content across, rebuild the design as a proper WordPress theme and redirect your old page addresses to the new ones, so you don't lose people who arrive from search results or old links.

Do I have to pay for WordPress?

The WordPress software is free and open source. The costs are hosting, your domain name, any premium plugins the site needs and the design and build itself. We set all of these out in your proposal, so nothing comes as a surprise later.

Can you take over an existing WordPress site?

Often, yes. We start by reviewing the theme, plugins and hosting so we know what we're working with, then recommend whether to keep improving it or rebuild it more cleanly. Either way, you'll get a straight answer.
